According to information received, a Chinese citizen allegedly cut the throat of his Ghanaian employee at Kweikuma in the Sekondi-Takoradi municipality of the Western Region. Following protests by Chinese laborers who were demanding their salaries, Isaac Boateng's throat was cut. According to reports, a Chinese construction company was hired to build walls around the Ghana Navy's apartments in Kweikuma.
When tempers erupted, the workers protested to demand their salaries because it was claimed that the corporation had been withholding the workers' salaries for a few days.
Before the injured Ghanaian worker was transported to the hospital for medical attention, some military officers intervened to defuse the situation. The circumstance has increased security on the company's property. It's interesting to note that after the incident, the corporation began paying the employees. "We had worked for the entire month and our salaries had not been paid so we called a meeting and questioned our Chinese boss why we had not been paid," one of the workers stated when explaining the incident to the reporters.
One of our colleagues went to the Chinese supervisor to inquire about the issue with the salaries because we have families and also owe certain individuals, the speaker continued.
"During the heated dispute, the Chinese boss took a flick knife and slit our colleague's throat. He had several, severe wounds, and blood was evident everywhere. We hope he survives after being taken to the Effiankwanta Hospital, he said. The foreigner who perpetrated the crime is still roaming the streets after some military [officers] intervened and later brought the situation back to normal.
We want justice for our brother and are in pain. We have roughly 80 employees here, and they pay us each GH18 per day for the laborious construction work we conduct," he continued. The company's management is remaining silent about the issue for the time being.
