Doctors are
perplexed by the case of a guy whose skin went grey after using
antidepressants.
In May of
last year, Tyler Monk, a resident of Louisiana, received a prescription for the
antidepressant fluoxetine. While he did not detect any changes in his mental
state, his wife Emily noticed that within a week, his skin color began to
alter.
After a few
weeks, Tyler stopped taking the drug. His skin tone did, however, keep getting
darker. Additionally, he started to get severely red, inflamed eyes, and sun
sensitivity.
When he
finally saw a professional, they were unable to address his initial denial of
the symptoms.
Tyler
explained, "At first they believed it was photosensitivity, so I'm
reacting to light, but I've been covering up and I'm still growing darker.
Any major
illnesses, poisons, and autoimmune problems have been ruled out by doctors.
They are unable to pinpoint the origin of the symptoms, though.
In an
effort to solve Tyler's problem, his dermatologist has referred him to a group
of eight skin specialists.
remarked
Emily "As long as he's healthy and okay with the colour change, we truly
don't mind. Whatever he decides to do about it, we will support him."
In order to
pay for medical expenses, she has set up a GoFundMe campaign, stating, "We
simply want answers and to make sure he is well."
They have
also uploaded films regarding Tyler's illness to TikTok in an effort to gather
advice from anyone who may have experienced a situation similar to Tyler's.
"It
has primarily been encouraging. Many jokes have been told. But since we often
make jokes, we simply join their laughter "Added Tyler.
