A robber who beat an elderly man after breaking into his bedroom window has been imprisoned.
Jamie Wightman beat his 81-year-old victim after dragging him out of bed and demanded money and possessions.
The incident in Mansfield left the elderly with a damaged eye socket, a stab wound to the leg, and a fractured spine.
When Wightman appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, he was sentenced to 10 years and 6 months in prison.
The 25-year-old, who is from Mansfield's Bamford Drive, entered a guilty plea to robbery.
On Saturday, May 21, 2022, according to police, an assault took place at the victim's residence in the Bellamy Road neighborhood of the town.
After Wightman left with the man's wallet and phone, they were able to identify him using CCTV and his fingerprints.
According to Nottinghamshire Police Detective Constable Bethany Sumner, "This was an incident that shocked and disgusted the local community.
As a police officer, I've worked on a lot of cases, but this was unquestionably one of the worst.
Wightman decided not only to rob an old man, but also to attack him repeatedly and without cause.
Unsurprisingly, the victim's experience that day has had a severe emotional impact.
