ECG’s Indebtedness To Bui Power Hits US$614 Million

By the end of 2022, the Electricity Company of Ghana owed the Bui Power Authority a staggering US$ 614 million, up from US$ 386 million at the end of 2019.

This was made clear when representatives of Bui Power appeared before the Public Accounts Committee, which was reviewing the Auditor General's Report on the Public Accounts of Ghana-Public Boards, Corporations, and Other Statutory Institutions for the year ended December 31, 2020.

Dr. George Tettey, the BUI Power Authority's deputy CEO for finance and service, informed the committee that collecting receivables from ECG is one of the Authority's biggest financial issues.

"Collecting on our receivables is one of our biggest problems. At the end of 2019, ECG still owed $386 million to BUI Power. And it's $614 million right now," he added.
